Listening
Below are some audio files and accompanying questions for you to practice with for each subsection of Listening. All questions are presented AURALLY, meaning there is no accompanying text. The answer form is just a means for you to record your answer. You do NOT have to submit, but if you do, it will send me, the site administrator, your answers to review. The benefits of this option are that I can review what questions you got wrong and help you in improving your listening more specifically. For extra listening practice with non-examination materials, go to Resources and choose from the available resources.
Section 1:
Listen ONCE to a STATEMENT and then choose the most appropiate response. (sets of 12)
Tips: Listen for questions words (where, what, etc.) and pick the answer that DIRECTLY answers or replies to the statement. Wrong answers may be related to the topic, so be careful!
Section 2:
Listen ONCE to a SHORT CONVERSATION and then choose the most appropiate response. (sets of 8)
Tips: Remember that the conversation gives you CONTEXT, and that you must pick the answer that DIRECTLY answers the question in the THIRD line of speech (which is spoken by the first speaker).
Section 3:
Listen to a LONG CONVERSATION and then choose the option that best answers the question. (sets of 8)
Tips:
-
The question is presented after the first listen, but the answer choices are presented only after the second listen.
-
On the first listening, listen for overall understanding of the conversation and main ideas.
-
On the second listening, listen for specific details.
-
Pay attention to the type of question asked and if it asks about one of the speakers or about the conversation as a whole.
Section 4:
Listen to a MONOLOGUE and then choose the option that best answers the question.
Tips: As with Section 3, listen for overall understanding and then for details the second time. Keep track of answers that seem right while you are listening to all the choices.
